Microsoft has made it clear that it would no longer offer new features for Office 2013 by the end of February. What this means is that companies who want support from Microsoft have to upgrade to a newer version. Office 2013 client applications and language packs won’t be accessible from Office 365 self-service portal. They intend to focus on upgrading Office 2016. Office 2016 does not have support for Microsoft Exchange Servers 2007. it would require you to upgrade your mail server.
Office 365 Pro Plus, Small Business premium, Business, Project Pro and Visio Pro would no longer receive support. Microsoft’s update of critical security updates would last until 10th of April 2018 for Office 2013 version of Office 365 ProPlus. While for Office 2013 Professional Plus, Professional, and Standard editions, support ends on the 10th of April 2018 and the date for the extended support for reliability and security is on the 11th day of April 2023. It would be advisable for companies to use Office 2016 and enjoy the new features.
One unique feature of Office 2016 is that it allows you to look up web information from the document interface. It allows employees access to Skype integrations, Office 365 Planner.
If your company intends to switch to Office 2016, your system should have a minimum requirement of the following;
- 1 GHz processor
- 2GB RAM
- 3 GB of available disk space
- 1280 x 800 screen resolution
- Windows 7 OS, or more
To ensure a smoother transition, Microsoft has made available a FastTrack migration, a service that makes sure that organizations move from one Office version to another.
What you need is your administrator’s rights to your system to install the new software. Legal IT services may also be required before installations to know the rights attached to the software. Where the rights are not available, contact your local administrator. Ensure that the software is updated after you have completed the installation. By so doing, the software would be up-to-date especially for its important patches. Use the following steps to reinstall MS Office 2016;
Backup your data.
Uninstall MS Project
Uninstall MS Office.
Install MS Office 2016.
Install MS Project and/or Visio
Office 2016 has a friendly interface and easy to use. Any serious-minded company would not hesitate to migrate to the newer version since there won’t be any support for 2013 except on critical security updates. This step is to ensure that more customers purchase the 2016 version of the software. This would have been very difficult for users if the newer version is not as good as the 2013 version. The 2016 version of Microsoft Office makes room for more accuracy.
